Assessment Music Video Draft 1 Aux Tasks Draft 2 18/2/2012

Evaluation draft assessment / check

Assessment / Check - Evaluation draft ideas SJA 16th Jan 2012

www:

  • Good to see you taking our advice on board and thinking of really creative ways to present your info for each Eval question
  • Thoughtful ideas noted here - with good intentions to really invest time and effort and use ICT creatively
ebi:
  • Time to start getting on with developing your 'ideas' and notes into detailed posts now Emma, as you have set yourself lots of time consuming tasks to do - but PLEASE do them, as it will be worth it.
  • New Technologies post - try using JING software to 'show' your skilled use of a wide range of new technologies on a daily basis in media lessons - just talk through as you open up your blog, final cut, photoshop, etc, etc...
  • Audience feedback - time consuming - but sooooo worth it. Do loads of 'documenting / evidencing' of you seeking a range of opinions from audience, and how you respond to their suggestions
  • Combination of video & ancillary tasks - this is all about the idea of 'design elemens' threading through your prac work - show your brand identity.
Overall, great ideas Emma - BUT NOW is certainly the time to get starting on getting these developed...

Planning posts - checking your progress Oct 16th SJA

WWW:
- Emma, I genuinely really enjoy looking over your blog and seeing your brilliant ideas for the posts.
- I thought your idea for the 'Initial Ideas' and the 'Concept' was really creative and imaginative - keep up this sort of appraoch for each post. These two were really excellent, and your genuine interest in this task really shines Emma!
- Your 'technical tutorials' post was really comprehensive and really showed careful thinking about how you could use the green screen in your own work. You are really developing a high level of technical competence in Media Studies Emma.

EBI:- There's nothing in particular Emma that you need to improve here with what I have seen so far. Just keep going as you are!

Overall assessment of 'Planning' so far: Excellent. To reach the top of Level 4 (which is what you are certainly aiming for) you need to continue to show your excellent grasp of creativity, innovation, imagination and ICT technical flair for every post. The 'Planning' section of your blog really should provide you with loads of opportunities to demonstrate all of these things. Well done so far Emma. Your hard work on this will certainly pay off. You and your group have selected a great track from a really interesting artist, and it should give you lots to experiment with in terms of mise-en-scene and representation. I am really looking forward to seeing what your group comes up with.

Assessment (SUMMER WORK) 18/09 SJA

WWW:
- You have clearly taken so much time and care in composing excellent contact sheets for all posts Emma. All posts are visual because of the use of contact sheets.
- I like that you have numbered the shots in your contact sheets, and several of your analytical posts make specific reference to certain shot types to demonstrate your understanding.
- Evidence of particularly careful thinking and analysis for every post completed as part of the summer work. Some very good reference to specific conventions / techniques, and a clear understanding of the features of a successful music video. You clearly gained a lot of useful ideas from the 'In The Sun' class shoot. You blog is looking very good so far.

EBI:
- Just some suggestions to help you improve the work: The contact sheets are very good Emma, and it's good to see each post is visual, but try to show a more varied use of media to create visual posts.
- I'd suggest that you try to take short extracts (clips) from some of the music videos you have anaylsed instead of relying on contact sheets for all posts. This would really boost marks for 'creativity' and 'skill in the use of media and ICT'. Try creating a 'voice over commentary' perhaps for your analysis of the low budget videos from 'The Fix' maybe -  to talk through the ideas you liked and the approaches (lighting / certain decisions with camera movement and edits) that you felt were successful. This would make make your blog visually more engaging and show your skills in analysing camera movement and editing techniques. Remind yourself of the range of ideas we covered in Year 12 when discussing how to make the best use of media when creating your blog posts. You could even film yourself watching and analysing some music videos - recording your comments.
- You have a very good grasp of the terminology we use in Media Studies, but make sure sure you are using as much media language as possible when referring to lighting (high key / low key) and mise-en-scene.
- In your post on 'Conventions of a Music Video', you might want to come back to this and explain that music videos are frequently a combination of 'performance' and 'narrative'. It would be nice to learn your comments about the tips you hope to try in your own production.

Effort for Summer Work: Very good - could certainly be 'Excellent' if just one or two posts pushed your use of media beyond your wonderful contact sheets and screen grabs Emma.

Assessment 12/07 SJA

WWW:
  • Well done Emma on your amazing effort with your year 13 blog so far - it's really visual and interesting to look at and read through. You make excellent use of screen grabs, photos, documents and contact sheets to SHOW rather than just 'tell' about your ideas and understanding
  • Your reflections on the music video shoot and the lip synch task show a really thorough grasp of what is needed to make an effective music video.
  • Your comments are reflective, detailed, honest and thoughtful. Yes - your own lipsycnch to In The Sun needed more variation in shot types - but you note that and recognise that, so the task was valuable.
  • Your organisation with costumes on the Music Video shoot was excellent - thank you!

EBI:
  • Just keep up the excellent contribution and effort Emma.
Effort: Excellent (EX)
