Conventions of a Music Video

There are a lot of conventions to a music video to make it successful and most of all to avoid viewer fatigue. Firstly, in a music video, whatever genre, there needs to be a number of camera shots and angles to make the video seem more interesting. Like in the image to the left there are a number of close ups and long shots, also some with pan and tracking shots to make it more interesting.

Also, in a music video there needs to be a number of costume changes and locations changes, and this helps avoid viewer fatigue and keeps the video more interesting, so the audience almost wants to watch it. Lady GaGa does costume change and location change well, she always seems to keep the viewer interested in her music videos as they are so crazy and wild.

Another convention of a music video that you do see in all genres of music, is that the performer has to be confident and that the lip-syching has to good, to make the video more realistic for the viewer. As you can see to the left, even if the performer is in a band, or solo artist, or even five people, they all have confidence and make the audience interested in what they are watching as a music video.
